Don't forget National Geographic!

Hi all

As we resume our blog and continue to invite teachers going online for the first time to link up with us for great resource tips, we would like to remind teachers and parents of the wealth of online resources provided by the National Geographic Kids site. Visit their site for printable resources suitable for foundation and intermediate phase, as well as excellent research material for homework assignments or oral presentations. Topics cover the full spectrum of the natural world and resources range from photographs and videos to interactive games and quizzes. The site is child centred and user friendly and is guaranteed to teach even visiting adults a fact or two! Find them at http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids

For teenagers or more advanced info, be sure to visit National Geographic Home, at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/.

Happy teaching!

Very visual site with an environmental theme

The site we would like to feature today is still at a somewhat experimental stage, but definitely worth sharing with your class! THE ECO ZOO is a somewhat wacky, offbeat English/Japanese flash feature which younger learners will love exploring. It features a treehouse with various levels inhabited by quirky creatures, all offering a lesson about environmental conservation, in - wait for it - a virtual pop-up book! Although the bagworm's contribution has us baffled, the kangaroo and the angler fish provide lovely resources for lively discussion in a foundation phase science or environmental education lesson.

THE ECO ZOO can be found at http://www.ecodazoo.com/

Enjoy!

Excellent Natural Science site

Hi everyone,

do notice the excellent Natural Science resource we have added to our NS links: http://www.arkiveeducation.org/ .This free site has been designed especially with science and geography education in mind and contains the most fantastic presentations and multimedia for use by students of all ages.

We have started to raise a little awareness about our blog, and will be updating links on a weekly basis from now on. Be sure to return and browse new links for use in your classrooms or homework hours!

Kind regards,

Melinda van Zyl.

Helpful links for teachers

We intend this site to be a free resource of links to great educational sites that we've come across and used in the classroom. Feel free to comment or draw our attention to sites that you find inappropriate or out of order. Parents often ask how to help with homework, or simply do not have time to search for resources online. We hope to provide a resource that will make homework fun, make life easier for home-schoolers and teachers, and to greatly expand the sites listed here as time goes by. Watch this space for more exciting sites in days to come.

Hope this week will be a great one!
